SURPLUS WIRE QUESTIONS, ANSWERED

The questions Minnesota sellers ask most, in the order they usually come up. If yours is not here, the phone number and email at the bottom of every page reach a person, not a form robot.

FAQ

Quotes and pricing

How do you price surplus wire?

On metal, conductor size, construction, condition, quantity and current market levels. A sealed reel of a standard size is straightforward; a sun-faded partial reel needs a closer look. We quote the lot we can actually see in the photos.

Is the quote free?

Yes. There is no charge for reviewing details and photos, and no obligation to accept an offer.

How quickly will I hear back?

Most lots are reviewed the same business day when the details and photos are complete. Mixed loads with missing labels take longer because there is more to identify.

Do you pay for the wire or take it away for free?

We buy it. The price depends on the material and the quantity, and pickup is part of the agreement on the material rather than a separate charge.

Can you give a range before I photograph everything?

Usually not a useful one. Metal and size set the range, and footage and condition decide where in it the lot lands.

Photos and paperwork

What photos should I send?

The reel face, the reel tag, the jacket printing and one wide shot of the whole pile. If something is damaged, photograph that too rather than describing it.

What if the tags are gone?

Photograph the cut end and the jacket print, and measure one conductor if you can. We can often identify a construction from the print alone.

Do you need a bill of sale or release?

Yes, at pickup. We document what is removed from the site for your records and ours.

Can someone else send the photos, like a property manager?

Yes, as long as the person sending them can confirm the material is available and who owns it.

Condition and packaging

Do you buy partial reels?

Yes. Partial reels are the normal case, not the exception. Tell us the remaining footage or show the reel face so the wrap can be estimated.

Do you buy used or removed cable?

Sometimes. Pulled and recovered cable is quoted on condition and remaining length, and some of it is not worth moving. We will tell you which parts of a load we can take.

Do you buy damaged or sun-faded cable?

It can be quoted at a lower value. Deep jacket cracking on medium-voltage cable is a different problem from a chalky surface on building wire, so photograph it.

Do you buy loose or unsorted inventory?

Yes, when the pile is described and photographed. Loose wire mixed with conduit, struts and hardware is not a wire load, though, and needs separating first.

Does packaging matter?

It affects handling more than value. Full reels move easily; loose coils in a bin take longer and may need to be palletized before pickup.

Pickup, freight and logistics

Do you pick up, or do I deliver?

We pick up across Minnesota. Smaller lots that palletize well can also be shipped by freight if that is easier.

What access do you need?

A dock or a grade-level door, room for the vehicle, and a forklift if the reels are heavy. Tell us about dock height, ramp clearance, gate hours and any escort requirement.

Can you pick up from a basement or an upper floor?

Sometimes, with a freight elevator and a plan. Send a photo of the space and the doorway before we commit to a truck.

How soon can you pick up?

Usually within a week of agreement, sooner when a route is already scheduled in the area.

Do you charge for pickup?

No separate pickup fee on a normal Minnesota pickup. Freight on a shipped lot is a different arrangement and is agreed before anything moves.

Scope and what we do not buy

What do you not buy?

Transformers, switchgear, breakers, motor control centers, generators, bus plugs, chillers, machinery, vehicles and general scrap. We buy wire and cable.

Do you buy wire only, or whole electrical inventories?

Wire and cable only. If a rack includes equipment, the wire is what we price and the rest stays with you.

Is every type and size accepted?

No. Every lot is reviewed on its details and photos, and some constructions, conditions and voltages are not a fit. That is why we ask before you move anything.

Do you buy from outside Minnesota?

The focus is Minnesota. Neighboring areas are considered when a load is large enough to justify the freight.

Working with us

Do you have an office I can visit?

No. We work by appointment and agreed pickup or shipping arrangements, which is why no street address is published.

Can one quote cover several locations?

Yes. List each location, what is stored there and a contact, and we will price the load and plan the pickups site by site.

Who am I dealing with?

A buyer who reads reel tags for a living. The phone number and email are on every page, and the person who answers is the person who quotes.

Sitting on reels you will not use?

Send the footage, the voltage and a few photos. We review the inventory, talk pricing and logistics, and arrange pickup or shipping when we agree.
