BUYING SURPLUS WIRE IN NORTHEASTERN MINNESOTA

Northeastern Minnesota is the state's heavy industrial corner: the Duluth-Superior port, taconite and mining operations on the Iron Range, paper mills, and a building stock that is older than most of the metro.

What the region produces

Mining and processing operations run large motor feeders, tray cable, control and instrumentation wiring and medium-voltage distribution. Paper and forest product mills do the same on a continuous basis. Duluth adds port facilities, healthcare, education and hillside commercial buildings where retrofit work is common.

That mix produces heavy-gauge building wire, tray and VFD cable, control cable, medium-voltage reels and recovered cable from plant work.

Where surplus sits

  • Mine and plant maintenance warehouses on the Range
  • Mill electrical shops
  • Duluth port and warehouse facilities
  • Contractor shops serving the Range and the North Shore
  • Hillside and downtown building storage in Duluth

FAQ

Questions we get from sellers

Do you buy from mining operations on the Iron Range?

Yes, when material can be inspected and the site access requirements are clear. Mining facilities usually require check-in, PPE and an escort.

Is Superior, Wisconsin included?

The focus is Minnesota. The Duluth-Superior harbor is treated as one industrial area, and nearby Wisconsin sites are considered case by case.

Can you handle large medium-voltage reels?

Yes, with proper equipment and blocking. Send the reel diameters and weight estimates.

Send your wire details and photos

Fill in what you know and skip what you do not. Photos of the reel faces, cable tags and jacket printing do more for an accurate quote than a long description.

  • Tell us the metal, gauge or MCM, voltage and conductor count.
  • Give footage, reel count, coil count or weight if it is known.
  • Send photos of reel faces, tags, jacket legends and the full pile.
  • Note dock, forklift or loading limits so pickup goes smoothly.

Sitting on reels you will not use?

Send the footage, the voltage and a few photos. We review the inventory, talk pricing and logistics, and arrange pickup or shipping when we agree.
